Four minutes of light that changed everything
A voice note on the rocks at Camps Bay, five days in a Woodstock studio, one set built for the hour the light changes. This collection is everything that came out of watching the sky do something it only does for four minutes.
It started with a voice note. MXR sitting on the rocks at Camps Bay, the sun doing something unrepeatable, recording thirty seconds of sound into his phone — not because he thought it would become anything, just because it felt like the kind of thing that should be documented. Five days later, he was in a Woodstock studio, and that thirty-second voice note had become a song. The Golden Hour Sessions ran from 6pm to midnight every day for a week. Everything you'll find in this collection came from that week — the music, the writing, the memories that attached themselves to it. The set at The Tryst was built for that specific hour. Not metaphorically. MXR calculated the sunset time and structured the build so the drop would land exactly as the light changed. He says it worked twice out of three nights. The third night it was cloudy and the set still worked, which told him something about what the music was actually doing.
How it feels
Warm. Open. The specific kind of unhurried that only exists when you're not sure how much light is left.
When to listen
Play this during the hour the light changes — or whenever you need the world to slow down.

Proposed to her on Camps Bay beach with this song playing from my phone. She thought I was going to play something romantic. I played the intro to Radio 013. She said yes anyway.

Where the archive began
Nostalgic. Communal. The feeling of a song becoming something it wasn't when you wrote it.
