Songs written somewhere on the N1
Four songs sketched out between Pretoria and Bloemfontein, on roads that don't resolve, at hours nobody should be awake. This is the music, the words that came with it, and the memories it picked up along the way.
Four songs written somewhere on the N1. MXR doesn't remember exactly where he was when each one started β the N1 between Pretoria and Bloemfontein has a way of dissolving geography β but he knows they were all sketched on his phone between midnight and 4am, on roads that don't resolve, at hours nobody should be awake. The Night Drive EP was released quietly. No campaign, no rollout. It went up on a Tuesday with a single post: 'Four songs for long drives.' Within a week, the Memory Archive had forty submissions β people writing in about drives they'd taken, conversations they'd had in cars at night, things they'd thought about while the road disappeared behind them. This collection is the music, the words that came with it, and the memories it picked up along the way. The companion mix was built to extend the EP β to give you somewhere to go when the four songs end.
How it feels
Dark. Moving. The kind of music that doesn't require arrival.
When to listen
Play this on a long drive, late at night, when the destination is less important than the road.
Late Night
Dark. Moving. The kind of music that doesn't require arrival.
Three hours on the N1 at midnight, just me and this EP. I pulled over somewhere past Johannesburg and sat in the car for twenty minutes after it finished, not ready to turn on the radio.

Where the archive began
Nostalgic. Communal. The feeling of a song becoming something it wasn't when you wrote it.
