The Night Drive EP, One Year Later

Revisiting four songs written for the road home.

Night Drive came out of a stretch where I was doing a lot of driving between Pretoria and Bloemfontein for work that had nothing to do with music, and almost everything on the EP got sketched out somewhere on the N1 at an hour I shouldn't have been awake.

Listening back a year later, I can hear how much of it was about motion rather than arrival — none of the four tracks really resolve, they just fade into the next stretch of road. At the time that felt like a flaw. Now I think it's the most honest thing about the record.

It's also the release that brought in the most Memory Archive submissions tied to actual long drives, which feels right. I didn't expect it to become the unofficial soundtrack for late-night trips to the coast, but I'm glad it did.
